Romantic weekend getaways in Ipswich, Queensland

If you are looking for a romantic weekend getaway in Qld, there is no better location than Woodlands of Marburg. We are situated in 250 acres of beautiful sweeping countryside overlooking the picturesque Marburg Valley, with flowing manicured lawns, glorious garden beds and stands of beautiful jacarandas.

Just imagine wandering through our gardens, early in the evening, watching as the sun sets and then strolling into our historic mansion, built in 1890, and dining in our first class restaurant with red cedar walls, fabulous chandeliers and romantic fireplaces.

At Woodlands of Marburg we are the perfect setting for a truly, wonderful romantic weekend getaway. Here you will enter a world of timeless elegance, mixed with all the modern conveniences you require. Spend your weekend in Bougainvillea House, one of our accommodation buildings, where we offer traditional deluxe and executive rooms with beautiful views over our gardens.

We have a half-size Olympic swimming pool if you want to take an early morning, refreshing dip, tennis courts if you want to build up a sweat and of course, the Woodlands of Marburg Winery just next door. You can taste our home grown wines in our restaurant and even purchase bottles to take home.

Everything you need in a romantic weekend getaway is here at Woodlands of Marburg. Tale a stroll through our lush gardens and rolling hills and pop into our very own chapel, a heritage listed building overlooking the quaint township of Marburg. Recently restored to its old world charm, we host many wedding ceremonies in our beautiful chapel.

The history of Woodlands is one of a pioneer spirit, with the mansion being the home of the Smith family from 1890. Moving from a timber producer to sugar cane, then to a rum distillery, the property was sold in 1944 to the Order of the Divine Word and used as a rest home. In 1986, it was bought by Ipswich Grammar School and was used for personal development courses, then in 2002 it was purchased by the Cooper family, who are the current owners and have lovingly restored the estate.

Couples’ Dream at Woodlands of Marburg

When it comes to romantic getaways, Queensland has some of the best holiday destinations in the country. From stunning sights like the Great Barrier Reef to the Brisbane CBD and the thriving tourism hub that is the Gold Coast, the Sunshine State has it all.

But nestled away just 45 minutes from Brisbane is a little piece of paradise that is every couples’ dream sojourn destination. That place is Woodlands of Marburg, a living, breathing throwback to a bygone era – but with all the modern luxuries. The 250-acre site mixes old and new to deliver romantic weekend getaways.

Built in 1890, Woodlands of Marburg is a plantation-style estate encompassing everything needed for a romantic weekend. Finally opened to the public in 2002, Woodlands of Marburg gives lovebirds the chance to stay busy all weekend – or simply do nothing at all.

Among the features of the estate is Woodlands’ very own winery. With its established vineyard – vines also grow on the Cooper family’s neighbouring properties – guests can enjoy a selection of wines at the restaurant during their stay and bottles can be purchased at reception. Wine and good company – especially a loving partner - is always a winning combination.

For the energetic couple looking for something a little more rigorous, the Woodlands of Marburg also has the answer. A half-size Olympic swimming pool is just a stone’s throw away from Woodlands’ two accommodation buildings, with the crystal-clear water perfect for a quick dip, a long session or a sunbake on the pool deck.

Not far from the pool are the Woodlands tennis courts. Nothing gets the juices flowing like a friendly hit of tennis between lovers and the courts can even be lit at night to allow for greater convenience.

Woodlands’ accommodation buildings are also perfect for a couple’s getaway. The standard rooms of Woodlands’ Bunya House are paired to share a bathroom with a neighbouring room and contain a queen bed, digital TV, mini-bar fridge and tea and coffee facilities. In Bunya House’s family rooms sleep four, making it perfect for two couples.

Woodlands’ Bouganvillea House - a traditional hotel-motel style facility equivalent to a 4.5-star hotel - is even better for couples. The deluxe rooms include a queen bed, mini-bar fridge, desk and lounge chair, with the four executive rooms featuring a king-size bed, sofa and double shower. Both accommodation buildings are just a few meters from all of the property’s facilities and a short stroll from the mansion’s dining and function rooms.

There are also a host of nearby attractions for couples in love, including Floating Images – southeast Queensland’s only balloon operator. Balloon flights can even leave from and finish at the Woodlands of Marburg.

The Australian Motorcycle Museum at Haigslea is just 3.5km away, while Willowbank’s Queensland Raceway is only a 25-minute drive. Then there’s Pterodactyl Helicopters, a single helicopter operator specializing in charter and aerial work.
